Our Good Hotel Guide entry

Our Good Hotel Guide entry for 2008 reads as follows:

"The owners took pains to make us welcome," says a visitor in 2007 to Roy Patten and Steve Johnson's small B&B in this "affluent" old town. "Good value."! An earlier visitor wrote of the "Charming, knowledgeable and helpful hosts".

The late Georgian town house has "an interesting history, nicely presented in pictures and prose". The bedrooms are on the second and third floors (no lift). "Ours were spotless, cosy and very quiet. My room looked over roofs to the South Downs [the roof terrace shares these views]. Traditional bedding, bottled water, alarm clock, etc."

The residents' lounge has "a friendly cat and lots of material relating to nearby Glyndebourne. We enjoyed a glass or two of wine here, with local friends". Drinks, tea and coffee are available "at all reasonable times".

The "comfortably furnished" breakfast room overlooks a small courtyard garden, and has a vast mirror, large oak dresser and flowers. The copious breakfast "was excellent; fresh fruit, good cereals, delicious cooked dishes, plenty of tea and coffee. For dinner, they have suggestions and made a booking for us. We were delighted with the Italian restaurant a few doors up the hill." (Trevor Lockwood)
